SCARE A CROW 2018 CONTEST

STAND UP TO STIGMA, ENTER THE SCARECROW MAKING CONTEST

The event, to be held at Cucurbit Farm from Oct. 6-8, 2018, will benefit the National Alliance on Mental Illness

The scarecrows soon to be lining the fence along Parker St. at Cucurbit Farm will be doing more than shooing away crows. They will represent individuals and organizations willing to stand up to the stigma of mental illness. Proceeds from the scarecrow making contest will benefit the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Central Middlesex. NAMI is a national, state, and local non-profit organization that supports, educates, and advocates on behalf of families coping with mental illness.

Individuals, organizations, and businesses are invited to participate in the contest. Each scarecrow will wear a sign with the name of the donor willing to “stand up to stigma.” The scarecrows will be on display for the full month of October. To secure your scarecrow’s spot along the fence, bring your $25 NAMI Central Middlesex donation to Cucurbit Farm at 32 Parker St. in Acton, and pick up your scarecrow starter frame. Bring your family friendly scarecrow back to the farm stand by the end of September. Consider joining us to help hang scarecrows during the "Put ‘Em Up Party" on Friday, Sept. 28th from 5-8 pm. A bonfire and plenty of S’mores will be on site that evening.

The Stand Up to Stigma event includes three days of farm fun family activities at the farm stand during Columbus Day weekend, Oct. 6-8. Family activities include farm animal petting zoo, hayrides, pick your own pumpkins, face painting, among other fun activities.

Representatives from NAMI Central Middlesex will be on hand to provide information and direction on mental health issues. The public is invited to vote for their favorite scarecrow.

Prize money: $100 for first place, $50 for second place, $25 for third place.
